Frequently asked Questions

Successful businesses understand the importance of good marketing and advertising.

For those new to the game, the whole process can be a bit overwhelming and confusing.
Hopefully we can alleviate some of the confusion.

Why window signs?

A colorful, well-executed window sign makes your business a 24-hour billboard for your products and services. Full-color, easily updated advertising is expensive; A window sign does this for pennies and gives your business a fresh, clean look month after month. Window signs can also increase the effectiveness of your other advertising by tying into your campaign and giving your customers an easy point of reference. (back to top)

Why Mc Dermott Signs?

We offer clean, professional service. We provide to scale proofs of your ad prior to application and we give each business an individual, unique window ad. Not another “blowout” like other painters. You won’t see the same ad on another business down the street. (back to top)

How much does a window sign cost?

Each job is priced based individually. Cost is determined by the size of the surface and the amount of copy. Extra costs come from window accessibility, height, masking (if requested), special illustrations or logos, and mileage. We do offer group and contract discounts. Each of these programs are priced individually. (back to top)

How long does the sign last?

There are many factors that affect the longevity of your window sign.
The number one reason colors fade is ultra violet exposure. The more sun your windows get, the faster the colors will fade. There are several coatings that can be applied to increase the color fastness and durability of your sign. The average untreated window sign will last 4 to 6 months. We recommend changing your window ad every 3 to 4 months. Signs left up longer not only deteriorate but they lose their pulling power and the message becomes stale. (back to top)

Do I need a permit?

Every municipality is different. We paint throughout Southern California. We do not have the time or resources to investigate each city's sign ordinances. As a local business it is your responsibility to know the local codes. Most cities have the basic rules and regulations online or you can contact the Code Enforcement Department in your city. We assume no responsibility for this part of the process. If your sign is in violation or if the sign must be completely removed (even after only a few hours) you are still required to pay for work in full. (back to top)

Do you guarantee the window sign?

Our paint is water-based latex, acrylic and Day-Glo paint. These materials are water resistant BUT NOT WATER PROOF. There are several coatings that we can apply to help protect against the elements but even then there is no guarantee. Damage can be caused by a number of different reasons: sprinklers, window washers, graffiti, animals, etc. We DO NOT GUARANTEE our window sign against damages caused by any factor once the window sign is complete. Caring for your new sign.

Caring for your new window sign is simple. First even if we coat the window DO NOT WASH THE AREA WE HAVE PAINTED. Windex, ammonia, dish-soap, and vinegar are all anti-oxidants with solvent properties and they will erode the painting. Even tap water can cause damage to your new sign. If you want to dust the window use a cotton t-shirt turned inside out to remove any build up. Remove the tag so that you do not scratch the surface and dust lightly, moving in the same direction throughout the process. (back to top)

Who cleans the window sign off?

We remove our windows as a courtesy to our customers only when we are going to do another window sign. WE ARE NOT WINDOW WASHERS. The surface will only be cleaned good enough to paint on, we do not render the surface spotless. If you need a more polished job there are several qualified window-cleaning services in your local phone book. (back to top)
